Oct 28, 2018 Your doctor may say you have lupus if you have at least four of 11 signs of the disease that are laid out by experts at the American College of Rheumatology Butterfly-shaped rash. Raised red patches on your skin. You're sensitive to light. Ulcers in your mouth or nose. Potential side effects of anti-malarial drugs include Skin rashes and pigment change. Atabrine, specifically, can cause yellow pigmentation of skin. Sometimes Plaquenil can also deposit in the tissues of the body and cause the skin to take on a greenish tone. Dry skin. Loss of appetite. Abdominal bloating. Upset stomach. Dec 27, 2017 All the tests were negative, however she said that she has seen cases where all tests were negative, but the patient responded to Plaquenil and did have an autoimmune disease. She started me on 200 mg on December 4th. I saw her a couple of days ago and there was no change, however I'm just recovering from bronchitis and a pretty bad asthma attack.

Plaquenil is also an antirheumatic medicine and is used to treat symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis and discoid or systemic lupus erythematosus. This medicine is not effective against all strains of malaria.

Oct 29, 2009 Hi Lucy, I hope the brand plaq works better for you! Plaq can be rough on the stomach, my rheumy started me off very slowly so don't give up on it! The first ANA I had was 0 in 2004 then a year later after being on Plaq it was and hasn't been checked since then. Plaquenil Question Has anyone experienced hair changes ie color, texture, or loss? I'd like to preface this by saying I haven't tested positive for anything yet so I'm unsure what kind of autoimmune disease I have, but my Rheumatologist still wants me to start on a super low dose of Plaquenil 200mg daily to see if my symptoms improve. Basically, the immune system is a bit out of control. Plaquenil works by suppressing the immune system. Unfortunately you can't tell it to attack just the germs so you suppress all of its function to spare your healthy tissue- in your husband's case, his eyes, mouth, throat. NOTE Plaquinil and hydroxychloroquine are essentially the same drug.
