    Withdrawal effects of plaquenil

The pharmacist said there wont be any danger just stopping it. Has anyone gone off the plaquenil and what happened? I was put on Plaquenil for RA as I was being dx for lupus. My rhuemy wants me to stop every time I have an infection. Best of luck, Creekbank My mom said she read that plaquenil is mainly used for the discoid lupus and people with the joint pain. Right now my hips are the only thing that is really bothering me my knees are now starting to act up.....

We evaluated the long-term effectiveness of maintaining treatment with hydroxychloroquine sulphate HCQ to prevent major flares in quiescent SLE. Forty-seven patients with quiescent SLE who had been randomized to take HCQ n = 25 or placebo n = 22 as part of a 24-week withdrawal trial were evaluated for an additional 3 years. Plaquenil is cumulative in action and will require several weeks to exert its beneficial therapeutic effects, whereas minor side effects may occur relatively early. Several months of therapy may be required before maximum effects can be obtained. Initial dosage In adults, a suitable initial dosage is from 400 to 600 mg daily, preferably taken at Jan 11, 2012 Plaquenil isn a antiparasitic drug with anti-inflammatory affect. I have done a lot of research on this drug and haven't run into anybody who has complained of the withdrawal effect. Over the years on this site we have had quite a few people post that they didn't think that the plaquenil was working so they would stop taking it.

There is no taper needed or withdrawal, but if it has been helping you, you may have increased symptoms by the time you go for your next appointment. If so, you would likely be able to get a prescription from that doctor for one month's supply to tide you over. I have only taken it once, so I am not sure what the results will be. I stopped mine and went into a life threatening flare - I would call your PCP to get a refill You may be fine or not- depends on if your illness has been lurking in the background waiting for an opportunity to launch an attack Louters, I went to see a new rheum and he took me off the Plaquenil to see what symptoms would show. I agree with poobie and would call your pcp to get a refill if possible.

Does plaquenil hydroxychloroquine change blood test results. Jan 20, 2014 Nobody really knows how to manage healthies who have a few "lupus anticoagulants" but it's news to me that plaquenil hydroxychloroquine would be a first-line Rx. It's not an innocuous medicine and is strong stuff even if you do have discoid lupus. And many folks have positive anti-nuclear antibodies but no sign of lupus. Read more.
